What is AirCheckTexas?

AirCheckTexas is the state's inspection and maintenance program. Started in 1990 in the Dallas/Fort Worth area, the program tested for hydrocarbon and carbon monoxide emissions. In 1996 the pilot program was upgraded to test for carbon dioxide emissions and expanded to Houston and El Paso. The program is now part of the annual inspection for gasoline powered vehicles from 2 to 24 years old. The program now tests for NOx as one of the three main gasses caused by emissions.

If your gasoline powered vehicle is registered in Harris, Collin, Denton, Dallas, Tarrant, Montgomery, Galveston, Brazoria, Fort Bend, Parker, Johnson, Ellis, Kaufman, or Rockwall counties (Liberty, Waller, or Chambers counties starting May, 2004) it must pass the emissions inspection test in conjunction with the annual safety inspection.

Depending on the model year of your vehicle it will receive one of two tests:
ASM2 (vehicle year model 1995 or older)
OBDII (Vehicle year model 1996 or newer)
